ORGANIZATION HISTORY
In the early spring of 2001, Julie Potvin and Ellen O'Neill, seeing a lack of theatrical opportunities for young people and their families in the New Prague area, teamed up to create Generations Theatre Company. They had three main goals in mind when they established GTC:
1) To provide continuous theatrical opportunities for children; 2) To produce quality shows for families with multi-generational involvement; 3) To promote theatrical growth in the community. That first year, Ellen and Julie ran the whole organization, including directing and producing the company's first shows. After an exhausting couple of years, the two went on hiatus and sisters Judy Deutsch and Janet Weiers stepped up to the plate. Not wanting to see a good thing die out, the two took it upon themselves to keep the company financially healthy and active in the community. In recognition of their contribution and efforts, Judy and Janet have been awarded with Lifetime Membership. After another half-decade of success, GTC found itself in another rut, with finances dwindling and volunteer support running thin. The board of directors took a leap of faith, throwing everything the company had into the musical Footloose, with the realization that that production could very well be the organization's last. To their overwhelming surprise, the play was a fantastic success, generating enough community involvement and financial support to launch the company into a renaissance of sorts. Then in 2012, we introduced a new facet of our organization designed to expose beginning performers to the stage and compel advanced students to challenge themselves: Starstruck Performing Arts Camp. Thanks for your interest in Generations Theatre Company. We hope you'll join us in "creatively bringing generations together!" |
